Otobong Nkanga (1974, Kano, Nigeria) realizes drawings, photographs, sculptures and performances variously to examine ideas around land and the value connected to natural resources. At Kadist, the artist will give shape to an archive coming from a recent investigation in Namibia, tracing the railway route constructed by the Otavi Mining and Railway Company (OMEG), in places that once bustled and bristled with desire.

This exhibition is organized in collaboration with Portikus in the framework of “Kadist Curatorial Fellow" from the MA in Curatorial Studies (a collaboration between Städelschule and Goethe University Frankfurt) to engage in research.

The exhibition is curated by Clare Molloy who is the 2015 Kadist Curatorial Fellow. She also worked on Otobong Nkanga's exhibition Crumbling Through Powdery Air at Portikus (15.07.15 - 14.10.15).

An extensive catalogue will be published by Portikus, Frankfurt, M HKA, Antwerp and the Kadist Art Foundation, Paris/San Francisco.
