Why has fame and celebrity become so important these days? Why is it that once people were famous because they were good, and now they’re good because they are famous?

Little did Andy Warhol know how true his words would ring almost 25 years later. While there seems no shortage of people ready to step in front of a TV camera, in vain attempts at celebrity (on talk shows, reality shows, docu-soaps, and the like) there is little interest in what becomes of them afterwards.

In his forthcoming exhibition, at Ellen de Bruijne Projects, Otto Berchem explores issues of celebrity, notoriety, and what happens after your 15 minutes of fame has passed, and the 16th minute begins.

Berchem will present a series photos, videos, text pieces, and a sculpture that are ‘case studies’ of people who have had their 15 minutes, perhaps for all of the wrong reasons.

During the exhibition Ellen de Bruijne Projects will present the Dutch premiere of Hotel Redux – the animated lives of an animated hotel, a new cartoon created by Otto Berchem, and commissioned by FACT, Liverpool.
