Prolific in a wide variety of media, Pablo Picasso embarked on his exploration of the linocut technique in the final decades of his life. The linocuts are distinguished by spirited lines and lyrical subject matter, style choices often attributed to his happy marriage to Jacqueline Roque. This same approach is evident in the ceramic work he made during this period. Process and Poetry takes the theme of the Bacchanalia, originally an ancient Roman festival of Bacchus, as its focal point. The works depict a joyous revelry of musicians and dancers.

Remai Modern is home to the world's most comprehensive collection of Picasso linocuts. Alongside editioned images, this collection contains an exciting range of working proofs, which the artist developed with his printer Hidalgo Arnera. These experimental proofs offer glimpses into the creative process of one of the 20th century's most celebrated artists.

Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) is among the most prolific, influential and innovative and artists of the 20th century. Remai Modern houses the most comprehensive collection of linocuts by this iconic Spanish modernist. The focused and specialized collection includes editioned prints, working states and experimental proofs that provide insight into the Picasso's process. All of the linocuts were produced in an 17-year period between 1951 and 1968, in collaboration with Picasso's master printer, Hidalgo Arnera (1922–2007). With Arnera’s expertise and support, the artist worked hands-on to understand and push the limits and possibilities of the linocut process.
