press release

Exhibition opening: November 30, 2007, h. 7 pm

T293 is pleased to present “Estate”, Pasquale Pennacchio’s and Marisa Argentato’s third personal exhibition, a new project planned ad hoc for the Art Gallery’s space.

The exhibition plays with the linguistic bivalence of the word “Estate” indicating at the same time, property as ownership of a real estate, according to the English language, and season of the year (summer) in Italian. The premises of the art gallery in Piazza Amendola are transformed into a shop, with a falling shop sign and a rusted shutter. The work explores how a same circumstance can be connected both to a past and a future event. Through a perceptive lag and the defamiliarization of the art gallery, the two artists offer the possibility to give up an automatic perception of things, and to establish a direct dialogue with the city and its economic and social tensions.

Pasquale Pennacchio (Caserta 1979), Marisa Argentato (Naples 1977), live and work between Naples and Frankfurt. The artists exhibited at Neue Alte Brücke, Frankfurt am Main (2007), Städelschule Academy, Frankfurt am Main (2007), Galleria Civica d'Arte Contemporanea, Trento (2006), Arte all’Arte X, Linari (2005), Assab One, Milan, (2004), Villa delle Rose, Spazio Aperto GAM, Bologna (2003), Radar Venezia Connecting Europe, Venice (2003), Viafarini, Milan (2003), Corso Superiore di Arte Visiva della Fondazione Ratti, Como (2002).
