press release

The objective of this exhibition and its companion book is to present a corpus of pictures that are unique, autonomous and united in a network of figures and themes. These images were produced over a period of more than twenty years; the oldest one dates from 1973 (the year Faigenbaum relinquished painting for photography), while the most recent was taken in 2006.

The present exhibition is not a retrospective summation, being less concerned with following an evolution than with reconstructing an intimate world of simultaneous images, shaped by obsessive themes, recuperations and analogies.

Faigenbaum is a portraitist, who for a long time dedicated himself exclusively to that genre; but he has, over time, widened his territory, which now encompasses basically every genre in pictorial tradition. The presence and depth of his pictures are essentially due to the treatment of the models, within a space that is ingenuously delimited and moulded by the light. Here, everything becomes embodied. But this work on the plasticity of form is equally a part of time. The photographer-sculptor is a child musician.
