press release

The S.M.A.K. is making room for the more recent medium of film and video art by devoting two rooms permanently to the presentation of films and video works and installations. The programme will be compiled by curators both from the museum itself and from outside.

The British artist Phil Collins is one of a generation at the heart of whose work lies a commitment to people, places and communities. In his video work he examines the role of the camera as an eye-witness, but at the same time he is aware of the therapeutic effect and emotional impact of film, television and music. The locations for his work are usually places where communities are being undermined, such as Kosovo, Palestine, Iraq and Colombia. Although his choice of subject is highly political, his works display a bittersweet humour and energy that forge an immediate bond with the viewer.

The S.M.A.K. will be showing the works The louder you scream, the faster we go (2005) and El mundo ne oscuchara (2004).
