Piece by Piece: Building a Collection

Piece by Piece: Building a Collection, is an exhibition of works of art from the Kansas City-based collection of Christy and Bill Gautreaux. Piece by Piece: Building a Collection, explores a selection of 32 objects by 25 national and international artists that evoke meditations on process, pattern, and material. Together the works engage with themes of abstraction, the body and gesture, race and politics, as well as landscape and geography; ultimately coalescing into the distinguished vision and influence of the collector in the building and shaping of a unique collection. The Gautreauxes were recently named by ARTnews among 200 of the world’s top art collectors.

Artists include Sanford Biggers, McArthur Binion, Nick Cave, Leonardo Drew, Andrew Erdos, Teresita Fernandez, Vibha Galhotra, Jeffrey Gibson, Michelle Grabner, Aimé Mpane, Vik Muniz, Toyin Odutola, Angel Otero, Ebony G. Patterson, Mickalene Thomas, Kara Walker, and more.
