press release

François Roche (b. 1961, Paris) has worked with Stéphanie Lavaux (b. 1966, Saint Denis) since 1993 and heads the architects' collective named R&Sie. In spite of his fifteen years of practice, seven partnerships under various names, more than thirty projects (unbuilt), two bankruptcies, participation in five architecture biennales in Venice and more than a hundred talks all over the world, he has up to now only had two projects built: the 'Shearing' house in Sommières (France, 2001) and the small 'Asphalt Spot' exhibition space in Tokamashi (Japan, 2002). This eventful career is characteristic of Roche's uncompromising research work.

Transformation, cloning and the combination of heterogeneous elements - major research areas in present-day medicine and science - play a leading part in the work of R&Sie. They do not see architecture as static, but as lively and biomorphological. In their exhibition they focus on the 'noise' of the city of the future, in which the visitor can move about by means of telepathy. A fictional documentary by the film-maker Sven Augustijnen provides critical comment.
