Ride over Lake Constance

During this residency at LoBe Berlin the artistic duos Awst & Walther and Nick Crowe & Ian Rawlinson have developed a collaborative work that brings together image, performance and text. Taking as their starting point the nature of ‘doing-things-together’, they have created a work in which themes of co-dependence and achievement are examined. In response to the intense oversupply of images in contemporary culture, the artists have chosen to focus on a single historical fragment. Their decision to intensely examine a found photograph may seem willfully perverse. But for these two collaborative pairs this particular image of two men at the summit of an Austrian mountain provides the framework for an agglomeration of doubt. The resultant work, a four hour-long performance, articulates a relationship between uncertainty and the creative act and will be premiered at the opening on November 1st.

Awst & Walther

The Welsh-German couple Manon Awst and Benjamin Walther have collaborated since 2006, sharing their time between Berlin and North Wales. Strongly influenced by their backgrounds in Architecture and Theatre, their interdisciplinary artistic practice explores contemporary experiences of time and space, and questions current social values and modes of behaviour. They create physically charged works in which spaces are multiplied, fractured and transformed and which interrogate the role of the individual in relation to the artwork, and more generally within society.

Nick Crowe & Ian Rawlinson

Nick Crowe and Ian Rawlinson are based in Berlin and Manchester and have worked collaboratively since 1994. Their work is primarily concerned with the languages of power, with its grammar and with its rhetoric. Their projects address questions around faith, politics, national identity, the environment and the ideological consequences of an action in regard to its apparent spectacle.
