artists & participants
This intriguing display is the first in a new series that forecasts themes or trends in international contemporary art. The title is inspired by WG Sebald’s voyages of cultural discovery and the exhibiting artists share a fascination with Bohemianism, indigenous arts and crafts, fairy tales, paganism and heroes. Some works focus on overlooked figures from history, alternative lifestyle models and cults, and forgotten political and utopian movements, while others reinvigorate the legacies of Expressionism and Surrealism. The featured artists are Steven Claydon, Natalie Djurberg, Saul Fletcher, Thomas Helbig, Dorota Jurczak, David Noonan, David Wojnarowicz and Thomas Zipp.
