The Museo del Prado and the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum present "Rubens, Painter of Sketches," an exhibition sponsored by the AXA Foundation and featuring the collaboration of the Government of Flanders, which delves into the study of Rubens as the most important painter of sketches in the history of European art.

Of the nearly 500 sketches that Rubens painted throughout his artistic career, this exhibition brings together 82 of these sketches from important institutions around the world such as the Louvre, the Hermitage, the National Gallery and the Metropolitan Museum of New York. These works, along with a selection of those preserved at the Prado and the Boijmans Museum - two of the largest collections today - will be exhibited for four months in Room C in the Jerónimos Building. In addition, the exhibition will present various drawings, prints and paintings by Rubens himself that provide a context for the sketches.

After its run at the Prado, in September "Rubens, Painter of Sketches" will be exhibited at the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum.
