The pre-opening of the M. Guelman Gallery exhibition “RUSSIA 2” will take place on January, 18 in the Central House of Artist, Moscow. The exhibition “RUSSIA 2” is the starting point for the cognominal large-scale project, aimed at creating a cultural system, which would be parallel to para-governmental, by gathering creative people on the access-free artistic work-ground. The project unites literary, artistic, performance initiatives in the frame of internet-portal, exhibitions, literary digests, artistic actions...

The “RUSSIA 2” project, which is the cornerstone of the starting project, shows 30 renowned contemporary Russian artists exploring the subject of the “other Russia” lying beyond the scope of the para-governmental, officious culture. Practically all the works presented at the exhibition have been created specially for the “Russia 2” exhibition and haven’t been shown before. The exhibition is in the Special projects programme of the I Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art.

The five halls housing the exhibition will be transformed into stages for performances by Dmitry Prigov (with Sergey Letov and Sergey Zagnij), German Vinogradov, Masters of the “OsumBez” (Gone Mad Crazies) Partnership. A show of the socio-political video programme of the Blue Noses group, a series of poet readings, a presentation of the publishing house “Ultra.Culture” and the II Guitar Festival will also take place.

The exhibition “Russia 2” will take place in the Central House of Artist January 18 – February 15, 2005 The project “Russia 2” will continue beyond this date.
