press release

At a time when "progress" demands ever-increasing accommodations, the MAK Center for Art and Architecture embraces Schindler's example by proposing radical alternatives to the prospect of yet another neighboring condominium complex. Joining the MAK Center in its protest are some of the world's best architects, each of whom has submitted an alternative vision to the juried invitational, a Tribute to Preserving Schindler's Paradise .

In June, an accomplished jury selected three "premiere" projects from twenty invitational submissions, the proposals by Odile Decq + Benoît Cornette; Peter Eisenman Architects; and Zaha Hadid Architects. From August 6 – November 22, 2003 , Schindler's Paradise : Architectural Resistance, highlighted these projects in an exhibition and catalogue that includes all of the submissions.

Architectural Resistance: Contemporary Architects Face Schindler Today The MAK Center has published the exhibition catalogue, Architectural Resistance: Contemporary Architects Face Schindler Today. Edited by MAK Vienna Director Peter Noever, this 120-page, fully-illustrated volume presents each of the twenty proposals in the context of a discussion about urban change, historic preservation, and the significance of site to architecture. Essay contributors include Joseph Giovannini, Norman Klein, Lebbeus Woods, Guy Lafranchi and Eran Neuman, and the publication is designed by award-winning graphic designer April Greiman. Pressetext
