press release

Sex and Sadness is a composition of eleven video art programmes that explore the basic notions of desire and conflict that form the backbone of everyday life. Channelled here through a medium that both mirrors and mangles the way we perceive the world around us, these reflections of the absurd, intimate, painful and quotidian, lay bare a series of personal ruminations that seem to be represented in the mainstream, but are in fact glaringly absent.

Sex and Sadness was curated by Jan Schuijren in the framework of the 35th Rotterdam International Film Festival.

Sex and Sadness: Close Readings - part 1 Saturday, February 25 Michael Snow (Prelude), Aernout Mik (Kitchen), Emily Vey Duke & Cooper Battersby (The Fine Arts / Being Fucked Up), Tiago Carneiro da Cunha (Low Attention Span), Kuang-yu Tsui (Eighteen Copper Guardians in Shao-Lin Temple and Penetration - series), Miranda July (Getting Stronger Every Day), Tadasu Takamine (God Bless America)
