SHAKE Gdansk - Re: Location 6

The show of the second and final part of a two-year project managed by Adam Budak. The SHAKE project tries to establish new and reinforce the already existing methods of communication between artists, art institutions and public. It emphasises the receivers (the public) and their role and position in the definition of an art work and its reception, as well as an attitude to the artist. The main issues on which the organises concentrate pertain to the exceptional way in which art is received and the mechanism of its perception. The framework of the project defines art as a "public service" and the art institution is interpreted in a sociological context. SHAKE shows, among others, the works of: Julita Wójcik, Cezary Bodzianowski and Dominik Lejman. It also comprises a symposium entitled "Does the Public Exist" concerning the condition of the contemporary viewer/receiver and his expectations, the role of a modern art institution, as well as an open Internet forum: "Looking at and Getting It: Is Art to Be Understood at All?" During the "Re: Location/Shake" on 9 July there will be Shake Night, an event during which galleries co-operating in the project will communicate via a satellite. Thanks to the audio-visual transmission the participants of all seven editions of "Re: Location" will meet at a session of a European round table, a series of artistic events and a party.
