Sharon Lockhart. My Little Loves
Inauguration: 18.10.2017 19:00
18.10.2017 - 28.01.2018

Since the 1990s, Sharon Lockhart has immersed herself in the daily lives of her subjects to make films, photographs, and installations that capture unique human qualities through studied, choreographed compositions. In her work, the directness with which the simplest of actions within a culture or community is framed gives rise to lively tableaux. Lockhart synthesizes specific aspects of life, exposing the oscillation between a cultural determinant and a particular form of behaviour inscribed within it.

For this exhibition, opening in conjunction with the screening of Rudzienko at Doclisboa’17, a significant group of works from Lockhart’s oeuvre were selected. Lockhart’s ongoing engagement with conditions of childhood, suggested by the film, serves as the foundation of this exhibition. Included here are film installations of Podwórka and Antoine/Milena, as well as a group of works made in collaboration with Milena, the young woman who brought her to the Youth Sociotherapy Center in Rudzienko, Poland. This selection, spanning ten years of Lockhart’s artistic production, expands on ideas surrounding children’s rights, ephemerality, and empowerment.
