press release

Show me yours & I'll show you mine includes two solo exhibitions, packaged as a great snapshot of two local artists on the verge of an international breakthrough: Vaast Colson and Kati Heck.

Vaast Colson (Kapellen, 1977 – lives and works in Antwerp) is known for his versatile visual work that includes sculptures, installations, paintings, drawings, photography and performance. He belongs to a generation of young Antwerp artists who do not shy away from the big question as to the place and role of the artist in society and the world. In his work, Colson continuously re-examines the relationship with the audience and the more or less authentic mystique of the artist's life. Colson also often invites fellow artists to participate in jointly devised actions or the production of collective works. His project Still some cream on the screen ispartially set up in line with this method. Together with artists such as, among others, Lieven Segers, Nel Aerts and brother in arms Dennis Tyfus,Colson brings a mix of various art forms.

Kati Heck (Düsseldorf, 1979 – lives and works in Antwerp) has in the past also collaborated with fellow artists on performances and interventions, but has in recent years focused entirely on painting. Her paintings in various sizes have a strange narrative and complex character, and yet a highly personal and recognizable imagery. With her absurdly grotesque images, Heck inscribes herself in the tradition of painters of the interwar period, which includes George Grosz and Otto Dix, yet seemingly effortlessly finds her own signature. Using references from comics, movies and pornography, she is richly inspired by popular culture, but also draws inspiration from her own experiences. At M HKA, Kati Heck presents Holy Hauruck, a large-scale snapshot with a retrospective character. Many works are shown for the first time in Belgium.

Show me yours & I'll show you mine is more than just two solo exhibitions: there is also a physical place where the two artists meet, and one of the rooms is reserved for a mix of works and performances by Vaast Colson and Kati Heck.

The exhibition is accompanied with a publication that will be presented at the closing of the exhibition in late May and gives a picture of the entire exhibition period as well as the numerous performance moments.
