( ... ) Inherent in this procedure is a danger of simply understanding a historical if admittedly still current model in her work. Simone Lucas skirts this danger by making the imaginary place of projections - the classroom, the blackboard, the researchers workplace, the painted curtain - and the canvas indivisibly one in her paintings. It is with the objects and constructions, which the painter uses to manifest her analytical distance to the visual realm of her creation, that her virtuoso painting causes a sensory overload in the observer. Simone Lucas does not offer historical reminiscences but rather contemplated fantasies about contemporary painting; she dissects the human eye to regain its vision.
