SPACES OF PRODUCTION

Im Auftrag von Nicolaus Schafhausen und Vanessa Joan Mueller entwickelt „Spaces of Production“ raeumliche Strategien und Modelle fuer die European Kunsthalle. Das Projekt von Nikolaus Hirsch, Markus Miessen, Philipp Misselwitz und Matthias Goerlich zeigt, wie sich zeitgenoessische Institutionen in Europa traditionellen Kategorisierungen von Kulturinstitutionen bewusst entziehen beziehungsweise diese gezielt weiterentwickeln, unterlaufen, neu besetzten oder neu kombinieren. Die kritische, aber zunehmend widerspruechliche Rolle von Architektur und Urbanismus ist Ausgangspunkt fuer eine Untersuchung ueber gegenwaertige raeumliche Transformationstendenzen europaeischer Kulturinstitutionen sowie die Entwicklung raeumlicher Modelle fuer die European Kunsthalle in Koeln.

Im Rahmen der Festivals „plan06“, dem Forum aktueller Architektur in Koeln, laden die European Kunsthalle und die Buchhandlung Walther Koenig am Samstag, den 23. September 2006, um 19.00 Uhr im Café Hallmackenreuther (Bruesseler Platz 9, Koeln) zur Vorstellung des Projektes sowie der neu im Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther Koenig erschienen Publikation „Under Construction. Perspektiven institutionellen Handelns“ mit Nikolaus Hirsch ein.

Eine weitere Veranstaltung der Buchhandlung Walther Koenig im Cafe Hallmackenreuther findet am 28. September 2006, um 19.00 Uhr statt: Marius Babias liest aus seinem neuen Buch „Berlin. Die Spur der Revolte“, anschließend Diskussion.

PROJECT PRESENTATION „SPACES OF PRODUCTION

The project „Spaces of Production“ which has been integrated into the foundation phase of the EUROPEAN KUNSTHALLE, explores the spatial conditions and potential of other urban situations in Europe. The research has revealed that many contemporary cultural institutions in Europe have deliberately sidestepped the traditional categories of cultural institutions or carefully advanced these, subverted them, given them new meaning or combined them in new ways. In this process, architecture and urbanism inevitably assume a critical yet increasingly contradictory role, that serves as starting point for a debate on the contemporary spatial transformation of European art institutions, as well as possible spatial models for a European Kunsthalle in Cologne.

In cooperation with the festival „plan06“, forum for contemporary architecture in Cologne, the European Kunsthalle and Buchhandlung Walther Koenig invites you to join the presentation of the project and the newly released publication „Under Construction. Perspectives on Institutional Practice“ on Saturday 23 September 2006, 7 pm at Cafe Hallmackenreuther (Bruesseler Platz 9, Cologne) with Nikolaus Hirsch.

Another presentation at Cafe Hallmackenreuther, presented by Buchhandlung Walther Koenig, takes place on September 28, 2006, 7 pm: Marius Babias reads from his latest book „Berlin. Die Spur der Revolte“, followed by a discussion.
