press release

Squid is a text-focused project aiming to make artistic productions' substantial knowledge available to a larger group of people, and will be launched as a website during the autumn of 2005.

Squid is to be a forum for discussions and connections relevant for the contemporary art scene. Since it focuses on the knowledge and experience which emerges from an investigative, creative process but, Squid isn't necessarily limited to being a discussion of art per se. Instead, it focuses on the "parallel knowledge" acquired in the process of cultural production/artistic work. It could involve research performed for a project or an interest that triggers or inspires your work in conversations, essays, interviews and so on.

In this way Squid also becomes an opportunity for the contributors to communicate in a parallel fashion which may differ from their usual means of expression.

Squid has been initiated by Katja Aglert and Janna Holmstedt. As artists they want to open up new channels within the contemporary art scene. It is an integral part of their artistic activity to create tools for expanding the scope of possibilities and opportunities for action. Squid was developed in response to this need, and they saw great potential in the diverse experiences involved in artistic and cultural processes. Squid offers the possibility to share this knowledge across genre borders.

Squid will be launched during the autumn of 2005 with about twenty contributions. Invitations are made continuously to maintain the growth of the Squid network and to create diversity in content, experience and representation.

Squid is supported by Konstnärsnämnden. Sveriges bildkonstnärsfond.
