State of Play

State of Play looks at spontaneity, improvisation, informality and wit in the current contemporary art scene. At a time when art practices cannot be defined through a single or dominant movement or school of thought, the artists included in State of Play approach both materials and ideas with a particular inventiveness. In contrast to the highly produced works of art particularly in the forms of photography and video made during the past decade, these artists very often embrace an economy of means to make insightful commentary into the state of play in the art world and beyond.
