Surasi Kusolwong

Surasi Kusolwong’s work encourages audience participation, and transgresses the borders of art and living, of concept and design. Born in Thailand, the artist’s relation to western modernism contains a degree of irony. His installations recall scenes within local markets and massage parlours, creating a parody of Western expectations of Asia. Additionally the trajectory of his work is aligned with subjective experiences such as his childhood growing up on a river boathouse. Surasi Kusolwong is born in Ayutthaya (1965); he lives and works in Bangkok.
