Empty Gallery is proud to present Takeshi Murata: Infinite Doors, the artist's first solo exhibition in Asia. Although Murata has recently become known for his series of surrealism inflected CG still lifes, Infinite Doors focuses on the spiritual core of his artistic practice: the moving image.

Spanning the decade-plus between 2004 and 2016, Infinite Doors surveys the entire range of Murata's work: from early found footage experiments through seminal datamoshing pieces such as Monster Movie, 2005 and Untitled (Pink Dot), 2006 through to his recent work with Pixar-style CG animation. What emerges is a portrait of an artist deeply engaged with the American cultural subconscious, whose aesthetically seductive works belie a deep knowledge and engagement with experimental cinema.

Infinite Doors has been designed in close collaboration with Murata as a work of experimental exhibition design which attempts to amplify and intensify the thematics of his work, creating an ideal viewing environment to house the perceptual intensity of his films.
