press release

Stephen Friedman Gallery is pleased to present a Ten Year Anniversary Exhibition marking the gallery's ten years in operation. This show is the first exhibition in the gallery's newly expanded premises that now occupies the entire ground floor of 25-28 Old Burlington Street. The exhibition itself takes place in the new gallery space which is adjacent to the refurbished existing space. The former gallery space has been redesigned to accommodate larger offices, private viewing rooms and a new garden. The galleries have been designed by London-based architects Caruso St John and the garden by Edward Turner.

Included in the show are new works produced especially for the occasion by all of the gallery artists: Mamma Andersson, Stephan Balkenhol, Robert Beck, Tom Friedman, Kendell Geers, Dryden Goodwin, Mark Grotjahn, Thomas Hirschhorn, Jim Hodges, Corey McCorkle, Paul McDevitt, Beatriz Milhazes, Donald Moffett, Yoshitomo Nara, Rivane Neuenschwander, Catherine Opie, Yinka Shonibare and David Shrigley. This brings together our stable of artists who are based all over the world from Europe to Asia and throughout North and South America.

The works produced for this show vary in medium and style. The artists have made works that include traditional drawing and figurative sculpture as well as emotionally charged installations. Similarly formal paintings are juxtaposed with cartoon-like imagery and photography. The result is an exhibition which displays the strong and dynamic aesthetic of Stephen Friedman Gallery.
