press release

Spanish-born New York artist Teo González opens a solo exhibition of new paintings at Richard Levy Gallery. The series is comprised of painstakingly controlled drops of enamel and dots of precious metals arranged in a grid pattern on acrylic covered canvases. The minute pools of pigment are placed on the canvas and allowed to dry, creating thousands of unique, semi-translucent marks. These marks are then punctuated with a nucleus of paint or liquid gold. Although these shapes exist within a strict configuration, they undulate with an organic vibrancy. It is the juxtaposition between hard and soft, science and nature, which makes these pieces so compelling.

The new work, divergent from González’s past explorations in black and white, are painted on fields of vibrant colors. The combination of rhythmic patterns, intense colors, and minimalist composition creates a transformative experience for the viewer.

Teo González’s work has a place in many prominent international museum collections, including The Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, and The Museum of Modern Art in New York.
