The Materiality of the Invisible

The Materiality of the Invisible exhibition combines the methods of archeology and the works of contemporary art. Like archaeologists, the participating artists are occupied with exposing concealed knowledge, with penetrating to times other than the present and probing the underlying layers of our social, cultural and political reality, thus making the invisible visible.
The exhibition includes the work of thirty artists and artist duos, both young and well-established, shown in three venues: Van Eyck, a multidisciplinary institute for talent development, Marres, House for Contemporary Culture, and Bureau Europa, platform for architecture and design.
The core of the exhibition consists of work by six artists who, on the initiative of the Van Eyck, have been selected for collaboration with archaeological partners in the long-term European project NEARCH - New scenarios for a community-involved archaeology during the last few years. The Van Eyck is a partner in this project together with all of Europe's leading archaeology faculties and institutes.
