Carsten Höller is the seventh artist to undertake the challenge of creating an artwork to fill Tate Modern’s vast Turbine Hall.
Höller is used to working on a grand scale and previous pieces include a series of electronic sliding doors with mirrored surfaces, which gallery visitors pass through on a seemingly endless and puzzling journey, as well as an installation of gigantic mushrooms which hang, suspended from the ceiling by their stalks and rotate in a mesmerising fashion.
Höller’s commission for the Turbine Hall continues his exploration of communal human experience by asking visitors to participate in the artwork. The experience promises to be fun and fascinating for all involved.
