press release

The Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum's retrospective show of work by the Swiss artist Thomas Huber presents approximately eighty of his sculptures and paintings dating from 1982 to 2004. Thomas’s method is unusual. Sketching, painting and writing in a commonplace idiom, he gradually converts his subject into a new, imaginary reality. Together, his subjects - a city, a bank a family - form a detailed view of the world which, due to the direct, realistic stylistic rendering, fires the imagination. The artist is the director of this ever-expanding presentation, transforming everyday reality into an ideal world where everything is related to everything else. The exhibition, staged in collaboration with museums in Aarau and Krefeld, is accompanied by a comprehensive Dutch-German catalogue with texts by the artist.
