press release

Throughout her adventures, Alice in Wonderland grapples with her identity. While this is a common feature of most children's books, Alice's questioning often inadvertently invokes the ideas of western philosophers from Plato to Bishop Berkeley.

Similarly, contemporary photographers have focused their lens on the transitional stages of childhood to raise questions about how we view the world. Curated by Fiona Kearney, Director of the Lewis Glucksman Gallery, this exhibition will present the work of a number of critically acclaimed artists whose images takes us through the looking glass into the upended world of the child.

The exhibition features the work of internationally established artists from Europe and the US and will be a remarkable gathering of some of the most outstanding practitioners in the field of contemporary art photography. Participating artists include Rineke Dijkstra, Anna Gaskell, Martin Healy, Roni Horn, Justine Kurland, David Farrell, Wendy McMurdo and Loretta Lux.
