VALIE EXPORT

In the work she has done since the 1960s, VALIE EXPORT has fought the patriarchal system and the system of oppression prevailing in Austria in the second half of the 20th century. Her main concern is to conquer free space, beginning with her own name, VALIE EXPORT, which she envisages as a product, a brand whose symbolic power serves to facilitate communication of her ideas.

VALIE EXPORT's work is a response to the difficulties facing her as a woman artist. It is informed by feminist research into the representation of women and into the social contexts that define their social position. The performances, photographs, films and videos made by this artist over the last 30 years constitute a political body of work rooted in the ferment of Viennese actionism. Pressetext
