press release

Well-known for her performances during which numerous models enact the ritual of being and appearing, Vanessa Beecroft (Genoa, 1969) is one of the most internationally recognized Italian artists. Developing her own expressive language, she directly addresses themes that are central to contemporary culture, such as identity, multiplicity, the body and sexuality, mixing glamour and the history of painting. Her events involve spectators in a direct confrontation, pushing to the limit the tension of a unique happening that is simultaneously real and abstract. ...

This exhibition, curated by Marcella Beccaria, is the artist’s first retrospective and offers an original interpretation of her artistic path from 1993 to 2003. On the second floor of the Castello it will be possible to retrace the fundamental stages of Beecroft’s development, through approximately 65 works, including color photographs, video-projections, and installations created specifically for the exhibition and inspired by the historical context of the Savoy residence. One specially equipped room will have a continuous showing of 51 videos created by the artist in conjunction with each performance. On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition, Beecroft is presenting VB52, a new, large-scale performance organized by Castello di Rivoli. (press release)
