Void

The exhibition is the 5th part of the Project GALICIA. TOPOGRAPHIES OF MYTH.

In English the word void denotes an unused place, but also an unoccupied space. In practical usage, void is an occasional notion: a place, once occupied, was at some moment emptied, but soon it will be occupied again. Like on a plane, a train or a tramway: one person gets off and another gets on. This notion may also serve as an allegory, referring to geographic sites in which a quick exchange of population took place. In the 20th century the most violent and mass "relocation of population" started with World War II. As a result of "eliminations," relocations and racial prejudice, the ethnic structure of several regions of Poland during World War II, among them the Sadeckie region changed completely. One is reminded of the former ethnic polyphony of this region by a large open air ethnographic museum, by the Galician Town, built next to it, and by occasional festivals.
