Willem de Kooning: Tracing the Figure presents images of women produced by de Kooning between 1938 and 1955. The sixty-plus assembled works on paper demonstrate de Kooning's persistent preoccupation with the female form and the important role that form plays in his oeuvre. Organized by The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the exhibition sheds new light on the development of the work of the renowned abstract expressionist as he struggled to eliminate conventional barriers between drawing and painting, as well as to synthesize the divergent traditions of abstraction and figuration.
