Wim Wenders - Pictures from the Surface of the Earth

An exhibition with the German filmmaker, author and photographer Wim Wenders (born 1945) will be shown in the West Gallery at ARoS Aarhus Art museum from November 20 2004 - February 27 2005. Wim Wenders is especially known for his films “Paris, Texas” (1984), “Wings of Desire” (1987), and his latest films “The Buena Vista Social Club” (1998) and “The Million Dollar Hotel” (2000) for which he won the Silver Bear, Jury Prize on Berlin Film Festival, 2000.

Wim Wenders photographs are made during his personal travels and while looking for new film locations. He looks at the world through his panorama camera and focus on the mysterious and poetic in the world surrounding us. In the photography of Wim Wenders the world unfolds as infinite landscapes. He captures the most magnificent mountain ranges and waste deserts, but constantly through the eyes of an estranged and curios European. Other photographs show the urban landscapes of Texas, New Mexico, Havana and Berlin. Empty interiors and deserted streets full of city signs and commercial boards leave a profound trace of human presence.

The exhibition is arranged in collaboration with the artist and Haunch of Venison Gallery, London.
