press release

Stroom invited the artists Justin Bennett, Birthe Leemeijer, Soheila Najand and Ton Schuttelaar to create an audio walk expressing their personal interpretation of the city of The Hague. This was a first step towards the creation of an ever-growing collection of CDs. At the Stroom information desk the public can rent a CD-walkman, choose the CD of the artist of their choice and set out on a tour of the city. The launch of the four audio walks was accompanied by the exhibition You Never Walk Alone, featuring a large number of art works ‘zooming in' on various aspects of the city. The urban experience was made visible through a.o. videos, drawings, photography, audio works, installations, notes and special city clothes.

In addition to the 4 artists mentioned above You Never Walk Alone featured works by André van Bergen, Matthijs de Bruijne, Radina Dankova, Carla Graft, Klaar van der Lippe, Jan Rothuizen, Julika Rudelius, Wim T. Schippers/Willem de Ridder and Minke Themans. Additionally the video ‘Bus/Atelier' by Fischli & Weiss was shown.

Willem de Ridder made a special audio tour of the exhibition entitled ‘Virtual Reality without Computer'.
