press release

One of the most successful young Japanese artists working today, Yutaka Sone works in a variety of media, including performance, video, and sculpture. His first solo U.S. museum exhibition presents four intricately carved marble sculptures of Los Angeles freeway interchanges—the 10 and 110, 10 and 405, 110 and 105, and the 14 and 5—surrounded by a dense and verdant jungle with winding trails. As a portrait of Los Angeles, this work captures the features and expressions of a city that has been altered by the automobile more than anywhere in the world. This exhibition is organized by MOCA Chief Curator Paul Schimmel.

Yutaka Sone: Jungle Island is made possible by the generous support of Audrey M. Irmas, The Japan Foundation, and Shiseido.
