Simone de Beauvoir (b. 1908, Paris; d. 1986, Paris) was a writer and philosopher and was one of the founders of the philosophy of existentialism. She is considered an icon of the women's movement, who dealt with taboo subjects such as sexuality, lesbian love and abortion. Her best-known work is "The Other Sex", a milestone of feminist literature.
