Constructing Worlds: Photography and Architecture in the Modern Age

Constructing Worlds brings together eighteen exceptional photographers from the 1930s to the present day, who have changed the way we view architecture and think about the world we live in, including: Berenice Abbott, Iwan Baan, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Hélène Binet, Walker Evans, Luigi Ghirri, Andreas Gursky, Lucien Hervé, Nadav Kander, Luisa Lambri, Simon Norfolk, Bas Princen, Ed Ruscha, Stephen Shore, Julius Shulman, Thomas Struth, Hiroshi Sugimoto and Guy Tillim.

This global exploration of 20th and 21st century architecture begins with the birth of the skyscraper in New York City, seguing through the beginnings of modern America, post-colonial Africa and India; industrialised 1960s Europe; the increasing suburbanisation of the First World and the frenetic urbanisation of the new economic powers of Asia, the Middle East and South America.

The exhibition features over 250 works, many shown in the UK for the first time, which not only document the built world, but delve deeper into the wider truths about society that are revealed through architecture.
