press release

Experimental movement and cinema share a rich history, an interaction that truly flowers in the 1960s with the explosion of postmodern dance and the rise of video art. Coinciding with the exhibition Degas and the Dance, this program focuses on collaborations between choreographers and videographers working in America and Europe, highlighting artists using video as a space for creating new performance.

Works to be included are: Steve Paxton, Magnesium, 1972; Merce Cunningham and Charles Atlas, Blue Studio, 1975-76; Meg Stuart and Johan Grimonprez, Smell the Flowers While You Can, 1994; Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker and Thierry De Mey, Tippeke, 1996; and Janica Draisma, Sonata do Mar, 1998.
