Havekost reduces objects, people, and ambience into pure forms. Unavoidably, the artist steers us to what he thinks is relevant. Fields of color and blurred edges define the precise style of the artist.

For this exhibition, the artist prepared several figurative paintings. Portraits appear derived from straight snap shots - subtly abstracted and occasionally altered by the whirl of a computer screensaver. By filtering the image the artist does not follow any narrative or concrete theme. Enveloped in ambiguity, it is in the eye of the beholder to catalyze the essence of his work.

With an anti-gesture and certain buoyancy, the paintings seduce, but do not please. The sense of loss is continuous. In a cinematic way one feels as if they skipped a scene or pivotal moment. The work displaces, turning viewer into prey. It offers no escape.

Solo shows include Beauty Walks a Razor’s Edge at Galerie Gebruder Lehmann, Dresden, Driver at Museu de Serralves in Porto, Portugal and Fenster-Fenster at Kunstmuseum in Luzern. His work has also been featured in many group shows such as Painting Pictures at Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg; Painting at the Edge of the World, Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and Goldener, Der Springer, Das kalte Herz at the White Cube 2 in London.
