La Presencia: Latin American Art in the United States is a survey exhibition about contemporary art of Latin American from 1950 to the present. The art has been gathered from important private and public collections in the United States, from California, Texas, Illinois, Florida and New York.

The modern masters on view in this exhibition, Roberto Sebastián Matta, Rufino Tamayo and Gunther Gerszo, have influenced the contemporary Latin American trends from figurative art to abstraction. La Presencia is presented in a series of five artistic movements:

representational art presents the principle artists that have worked in the various currents of contemporary figurative art from the 1950s to the 1980s.

geometric, kinetic & optical art defines a movement of artists that broke with the figurative tradition to create different styles of geometric based sculpture and painting.

pop art / neo pop demonstrates the influence of American Pop Art in Latin America from the 1960s and again in the 1980s with the intention to criticize Western ideology.

conceptual art emphasizes an art in which the concept or idea is more important than the actual object pursued in the diverse media of found objects, photography and performance based art.

new trends in art today identifies the emergent forms of art, such as photo-based painting, organic sculpture, photography and video art, created by the Latin American artist today who is recognized in the international contemporary art scene.
