This summer, Delirious, the tenth edition of the international sculpture exhibition Lustwarande, will be taking place at park De Oude Warande in Tilburg, the Netherlands. This jubilee edition will show a wide range of developments in contemporary sculpture. The curators—Chris Driessen and David Jablonowski—have selected 25 artists, including Isabelle Andriessen, Steven Claydon, Claudia Comte, Camille Henrot and Sarah Lucas. Most of the works have been specially created for the exhibition.

Focus on skin Lustwarande aims to highlight current developments in contemporary sculpture. Delirious will be showing works in which the focus is on the skin of sculpture. Artists are now mixing “old-fashioned” materials, such as clay, wood and marble, with modern plastics, 3D printing and found objects.

Giant courgettes Delirious will be showing a number of impactful and eye-catching works, made by both emerging artists and by more established names, such as a seven-metre-long sculpture by Isabelle Andriessen; a large and organic marble sculpture by Claudia Comte; an eclectic totem pole, almost five metres tall, by Steven Claydon; a three-metre-high sculpture in bronze, steel and copper by Camille Henrot; and Sarah Lucas’s giant courgettes, almost five metres long, one made of concrete, the other of bronze.

Brief Encounters: performances in September
Lustwarande presents the performance programme Brief Encounters on Sunday, September 8, featuring new event sculptures by Tanja Ritterbex (Netherlands), Last Yearz Interesting Negro (UK) and Gosie Vervloessem (Belgium).

The curators are Chris Driessen, artistic director of Lustwarande, and Lucette ter Borg, independent curator, writer and art critic for NRC Handelsblad.
The programme starts at 2pm.

Mirrored pavilion
De Oude Warande was landscaped in the eighteenth century and is the Netherlands’ best-preserved Baroque parkland garden with a star-shaped path system. At the end of 2007, artist Callum Morton was commissioned to design a pavilion for the central point of the park. Morton designed a remarkable building in the form of a modern folly. The mirror-clad pavilion was given the name Grotto and has a cave-like interior. The pavilion houses a small catering facility, which serves as an excellent place to meet. Grotto was completed in June 2009 and is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.

Jubilee publication
In the autumn, the bilingual jubilee publication Delirious Lustwarande—Excursions in Contemporary Sculpture III will be published.
