Mallorca Open

The first edition of ”Mallorca Open” was opened on august 6, 2005.

The exhibition will investigate the return to constructivist principles in international young art. The artists work on constructivist principles in terms of construction and deconstruction or as an experience of the personal and the social.

The opening will be accomplished by a life performance by artist and DJ Gerwald Rockenschaub.

The aim of ”Mallorca Open” is to initiate an exchange between international young artists and their public as well as to create a new platform for innovative contemporary art. The rich and complex cultural identity of Mallorca, with many different cultural initiatives and people coming from all over the world, confirms Andratx / Mallorca as the right place for this venue.

”Mallorca Open” continues the line of presentation of high – profile contemporary art started by Kunsthalle. The exhibition is undertaken to produce an unconventional image with a view to new concepts and visions. About ten international young artists of any genre (painting, video, photography, sculpture, performance etc...), will present their work in the non-competitive environment, of artistic expression. Each of them will contribute to the show with a representative range of work.

About the curator:

Friederike Nymphius (b.1968) made her PhD about John M Armleder at UdK, Berlín. During the last three years she has been working for the Daimier-Chrysler Collection Berlin, where she was responsible for the ”Minimalism and After” and the ”Private / Corporate” series. She published various art books and catalogues as ”John Armleder. Pudding Overdose”, ”Andy Warhol. Business Art” and upcoming ”x-minimal”. Friederike Nymphius lives in Berlin.
