Molecules That Matter

Molecules That Matter showcases ten molecules, each associated with a decade of the 20th century. This unique interdisciplinary exhibition will bring together contemporary art by nationally recognized artists, historical artifacts and documents representing the cultural history of each molecular substance, shown alongside scientifically accurate, aesthetically elegant, newly commissioned large-scale molecular models. Focusing on the scientific and cultural significance of organic molecules, Molecules That Matter, will enhance the public appreciation and understanding of the natural sciences, with a focus on molecular chemistry and its deep-reaching social and cultural impact on our everyday lives. Artists include Fred Tomaselli, Roxy Paine, Melissa Gwyn, Tony Cragg, Bryan Crockett, Jean Shin, Susie Brandt, Alexis Rockman, Frank Moore, and Michael Oatman, among others. Organized by Dr. Ray Giguere, Professor of Chemistry, Skidmore College, and John Weber, Dayton Director, Tang Museum, in collaboration with the Chemical Heritage Foundation, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
