press release

Opening: June 22nd, 18 h.

Palazzo delle Papesse opens the second exhibition cycle of year 2007 introducing the group show entitled Numerica.

This group show, curated by Lorenzo Fusi and Marco Pierini has as an exclusive subject the number. Starting from the '60s to arrive to contemporary experiences, artists have always shown - often reprocessing intuitions and researches of the historical avantgardes - a special interest for the universe of numbers. Sometimes excusively used for its function of symbol, the number as a protagonist passed through painting, sculpture, installation, video, and even photography.

Depending on each poetic, movement, cultural training or origin, artists have used the number - absolute or associated to other images, sounds, words - to face themes pertaining to exact sciences, numerology, technology, superstition, philosophy.

Without forgetting game, gambling, calculus of probability, in the acquired consciousness that numbers progression is not only measure but, especially, a figure of time passing.
