press release

When “lively ones” – beings that are born and die – become the theme of an exhibition, is the “face expression” and the subject of liveliness close to reality? Is this expression exaggeratedly large? Or is it clearly smaller – in terms of its measures, which might be one of the most important components of the feeling that would like to be transmitted. Based on this thought, a selection from the collection was chosen.

The first characteristic of the most important works of art history, even if from afar, is an ability to draw in the viewer, thereby claiming an ambassadorial role. It can be said that these ambassadors charm the viewer and pull one towards them – one comes “eye to eye” with “small faces” and is inclined, if not ready, to look at “large sizes” from the lowest to the highest perspectives… As the viewer walks towards an artwork, an archive of memories opens and one begins to question the artist’s source(s) of influence, opens, or leaves open doors to new interpretations of works placed in contrasting poles.

MEZZANINE

In 2015, the Elgiz Museum presents the “MEZZANINE” as a more integrative and qualitative exhibition space, by applying light, and using the office corridors between the two separate areas to show works of specific size. Taking the “TRIANGLE” at the museum entrance and the “TERRACE” on the rooftop into account, the “MEZZANINE” is the third new space inside the museum. The “MEZZANINE” covers 160 square meters and stands as a second, independent exhibition area from the “TEMPORARY EXHIBITION SPACE” downstairs. It is open to independent, thematic exhibitions or becomes the extension of the “TEMPORARY EXHIBITION SPACE” which gives it an altogether unifying and enriching character.
