press release

OPENING 25 June, 7pm with DJ Andy Grier (Thieves Like Us)

LUDLOW 38 is pleased to present the new issue of STARSHIP, a Berlin based art magazine founded by Hans-Christian Dany, Martin Ebner and Ariane Müller in 1998. STARSHIP is a magazine that permanently shifts form and format: it appears as a print magazine about once a year but also takes the shape of a gallery, a cinema space, a publishing house, or a production office organising exhibitions and concerts. STARSHIP is the collective art practice of its three founding members and serves as platform for inviting other artists and writers to collaborate.

The new issue of the printed magazine is the result of a close collaboration with the artist Henrik Olesen. Under the title 'various sketches for leaving the room’, STARSHIP #11 negotiates several demarcation lines and passage ways of real and fictional journeys through national geographies, public places and private spaces. The magazine launch will be contextualized by a collaborative installation: a set of possible entrances and exits, reflecting the territorial dialectics of marking off and crossing through, of being invited and acting as a host, of being inside or preferably outside – because of the summer heat.

The exhibitition also includes a visual research project on excess and sustainability initiated by STARSHIP entitled >Seinesgleichen geschieht - The Like of It Now Happens< 19 Posters and a plastic bag by Simone Gilges, Judith Hopf, Daniel Pflumm, Bless, Nils Norman, Stefan Dillemuth, Christoph Schaefer, Nina Rhode, Sebastian Lütgert, Henrik Olesen, 4000, Michaela Eichwald, Diplomacy in Reflex, Gunter Reski, Klaus Weber, Deborah Schamoni, Florian Zeyfang, Ariane Müller, Martin Ebner and Hans-Christian Dany. Funded by Kunstfonds Bonn.

The magazine STARSHIP #11 >various sketches for leaving the room< was edited in collaboration with Henrik Olesen and includes contributions by Danh Vo, Enrico David, Sean Snyder, Jay Chung & Q Takeki Maeda, Dominic Eichler, Elodie Evers, Julian Goethe, Jakob Kolding, Crispin Oduor Macachia, Martin Kirchner, Siw Umsonst, Jeronimo Voss, Francesca Drechsler, Kobe Matthys/Agency, Michaela Eichwald, Richard Hawkins, Simon Fujiwara, Shahira Issa, Klaus Weber, Andy Grier, Gerry Bibby, Gunter Reski, Nicolas Siepen, Stephanie Wurster, Judith Hopf, Gürsoy Dogtas, Sebastian Bodirsky, Francesca Lacatena, Florian Zeyfang, Henrik Olesen.
