press release

Andrew Kreps Gallery and The Wrong Gallery are pleased to present We Disagree, a group exhibition of works by a diverse group of international artists. For this exhibition, works have been brought together from various geographic locations and points in time to engage in a dialogue, and sometimes 'disagree'.

The works in We Disagree have been positioned to form idiosyncratic relationships with each other. Peter Peri's delicate mechanical pencil drawings, with their eerily hairy appearance, contrast with Florian Pumhösl's stark antique lace doily attached to a black panel. Other works such as Dieter Roth's cacophonous sound loop and Robert Kusmirowski 's counterfeit apprenticeship certificate show us two disparate modes of production, while Christian Frosi's Foam Ramp invites visitors to spray shaving cream on top of a Plexiglas ramp and watch it slowly melt down. Meanwhile, in the two doorway spaces of The Wrong Gallery, Jamie Isenstein, has created a dual installation that emits a bittersweet humor in addressing the passing of time. In one door, Isenstein has altered the common 'will return' clock in a way well suited to the fact that The Wrong Gallery's doors are always locked. By installing a small clock motor to the usually static hands of the clock, the hands always say that the absent subject will return in ten minutes, though in truth she never will. And in the second space, she has filled the doorway with ice and placed a top hat on top of the pile. As the ice gradually melts, the viewer will be confronted with the absence of the implied body.

We Disagree also includes works by Silke Otto-Knapp, Jonathan Monk, Martin Boyce, Hayley Tompkins, Simon Evans, Roman Signer, Michael Sailstorfer, Evan Holloway, Monika Sosnowska, and James Yamada.
