Preview and Opening November 6, 2008

ARTISSIMA 15 will include 128 galleries from all over the world alongside curated projects and exhibitions both inside the Fair and throughout the city.

PRESENT FUTURE 17 projects by artists emerging on the national and international art scene have been selected by a team of four curators: Cecilia Alemani, art critic and independent curator, New York; Michael Ned Holte, independent curator and art critic, Los Angeles; Thibaut Verhoeven, curator SMAK, Gent; Aurélie Voltz, independent curator, Berlin. The selected artists will have the opportunity to exhibit their works in a special area, based around the theme of the agora. There will be an emphasis on the dialogue between the artists, who have themselves been invited to create an authentic exhibition. During the fair, a jury consisting of Eva González-Sancho, curator, director Frac Bourgogne, Dijon - Gianni Jetzer, director Swiss Institute, New York - Rein Wolfs, artistic director Kunsthalle Fridericianum, Kassel, will award the most significant artist with the illy Present Future Prize.

CONSTELLATIONS In a large area by the entrance to the Fair, installations, sculptures, and large-format works by famous and emerging artists will be shown in an museum-type exhibition. Stéphanie Moisdon, co-curator, 2007 Lyon Biennale and Manifesta 4, and Susanne Pfeffer, curator, Kunst-Werke, Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, have selected 11 artworks from more than 80 projects submitted by the galleries taking part in the Fair.

NEW ENTRIES 19 galleries form 10 countries have been admitted this year to the section for young galleries set up after 2003 and taking part in the Fair for the first time. This exclusive selection will offer the most interesting new names on the international art scene. The Guido Carbone Prize, will be awarded by a jury consisting of Nicolas Bourriaud, contemporary art curator, Tate Britain, London - Heike Munder, director Migros Museum Für Gegenwartskunst, Zürich - Marc-Olivier Wahler, director Palais de Tokyo, Paris - and the artist Laura Viale, a permanent member as representative of the award Promoting Committee.

The VIDEO LOUNGE at Artissima 15 is curated by attitudes (Max Andrews & Mariana Cánepa Luna), an independent curatorial office based in Barcelona. For the 2008 event, Latitudes have chosen the fascinating theme of paranormal phenomena and all that wavers between truth and fiction, science and science fiction. X, Y, etc.! will be an array of film and video artworks, a selection motivated by the methodological project of Charles Fort (1874–1932), a relentless researcher of paranormal phenomena avant la letter. X, Y, etc.! participates in Fort's universe by presenting a contrary borderland of knowns and unknowns, cynicism and speculation, science and fiction. Art and reality are far more mysterious, complex and nuanced than we realize.

The ITALIAN WAVE contest has been launched this year by Artissima for under-35 Italian artists who are not yet represented by any gallery. The international jury, which consists of Sebastian Cichocki, director, Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw - Gail Cochrane, director, Fondazione Spinola Banna per l'Arte, Turin - Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy, independent resident curator, Kadist Art Foundation, Paris – Alessandro Rabottini, curator, Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Bergamo, has selected 7 artists who will have the opportunity to take part in the Fair .
