press release

This exhibition represents the second important collaboration of Villa Manin Centre for Contemporary Art with renown international institutions and museums. For this occasion Villa Manin will host masterpieces from the Ludwig Museum Cologne, the most important modern and contemporary art collection in Europe. The exhibition will include works of painting, sculpture, photography and video by artists who make up the history of the Twentieth Century: from Francis Bacon to Gerhard Richter, from Yves Klein to James Rosenquist, from Pablo Picasso to Bill Viola. Through a display which will emphasise the dialogue with the architecture of the villa, Il Teatro dell’Arte will reveal a complete and heterogeneous panorama on the themes and approaches which have characterised our recent times. Art is interpreted as a stage where, through the artist’s vision, the comedy of history and life takes place. Villa Manin and its history become a fantastic setting underlining the significance of human thought and of its creation.

Works by: Pawel Althamer, Francis Bacon, Stephan Balkenhol, Georg Baselitz, Max Beckmann, Joseph Beuys, Erik Bulatov, Walter De Maria, Rineke Dijkstra, Otto Dix, William Eggleston, Isa Genzken, Franz Gertsch, Alberto Giacometti, Gilbert and George, Bruno Goller, Renato Guttuso, Georg Herold, Heinrich Hoerle, Jörg Immendorf, Ilya Kabakov, On Kawara, Bodys Isek Kingelez, Martin Kippenberger, Per Kirkeby, Konrad Klapheck, Yves Klein, Komar & Melamid, Maria Lassnig, Boris Mikhailov, Nam June Paik, AR Penck, Pablo Picasso, Sigmar Polke, Gerhard Richter, James Rosenquist, Mimmo Rotella, Niki de Saint-Phalle, August Sander, Tino Sehgal, Wolfgang Tillmans, Jean Tinguely, Bill Viola.
